If you want to use drawing or painting apps on your phone or tablet then buying a stylus is the best thing to do since using your fingers does not ensure accuracy. Generally, a stylus would cost atleast 10 dollars which is quite steep considering that it is not used that often. Follow this DIY and create a stylus that is perfect for phones and tablets. This stylus will work on capacitive touch screen devices and can be made by using a simple pen! This is made using a conductive material so that it can carry the electricity to the screen in order to start working.
Method 1
The first method can be made using a cotton swab and a pen. The supplies needed for this are as follows:-
- Ball point pen
- Silver foil
- Cotton swab
- Scissors
- Tape
- A drop of water
Step 1: Remove the refill of the pen and make sure it is clean.
Step 2: Cut the Q-Tip angularly and insert through the nib of the pen and tape it securely
Step 3: Wrap a piece of foil starting from the cotton swab through half of the pen. Make sure the foil reveals the tip of the swab.
Step 4: Smoothen down the foil so that it fits on the pen tightly and secure with tape
Step 5: Dip the cotton swab in a drop of water to start using. Doing this will not damage your phone or tablet.
Method 2
The second method is similar to the first. However, it requires slightly different materials which are as follows:-
- Metallic Pen
- Sponge
- Scissors
- Tape
Step 1: Take a metallic Pen and remove its refill and nib portion.
Step 2: Cut a small piece of sponge that is atleast half inch in breadth and 3 inches in length. Fit it in the pen.
Step 3: Trim the sponge to give it a round shape and secure in place with tape. The only con of using this method is that you need to dip it in water slightly before use.
Method 3
This method is slightly difficult since it uses materials that are not so easily available. However, this is the most effective method of all. For this method you will need:-
- Standard arrowhead eraser
- Conductive Foam
- Metal Paintbrush
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut a corner piece of the Conductive foam. Also cut the arrowhead eraser into half and use the cylindrical part.
Step 2: Fit the foam in the cylindrical rubber. So that it snugly fits inside.
Step 3: Insert the rubber and foam duo into the back of metallic paint brush. Make sure you leave enough foam so that the metal doesn’t come out of it and damages the screen.
Conclusion
Apart from the above mentioned methods, you can also use the negative end of the battery as a stylus. This does not require any alteration since you just need to remove the insulating wrapping.
