If you’re one of the users who is experiencing issues with the fingerprint scanner on your smartphone, there are some solutions you can try.
In this article, we’ll explain some effective tips that can help you fix fingerprint sensor problem on your Samsung Galaxy A30s, A50s or A70s. Read on.
How to fix fingerprint sensor problem on Samsung Galaxy A30s, A50s and A70s
1. Clean the screen
Since these smartphones feature on-screen fingerprint sensor, the fingerprint scanner can get smudgy if there are dirt on the surface of your phone’s screen. Because of this, the fingerprint scanner may not be able to detect the fingerprints correctly. Wiping the dirt off from the display with a clean soft cloth may help clear the issue.
2. Remove the screen protectors
Some screen protectors can interfere with the on-screen fingerprint sensor and cause it to stop working properly. Removing or replacing with Samsung approved screen protectors may help fix the problem.
3. Improve the screen sensitivity
The fingerprint sensor can also be affected by the touch sensitivity of the screen. Try adjusting the touch sensitivity and see if that fixes the issue. You can improve the touch screen sensitivity by performing the following steps.
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Display
- Now tap the Touch sensitivity and then toggle the switch On to increase the touch sensitivity of the screen.
4. Remove old fingerprints to add new ones
Your phone may not be able to recognize the fingerprints especially if your current fingerprints do not match with the old ones. This can happen due to many factors. For instance, if your fingertips have got scarred or wrinkled overtime due to wear and tear or other climatic conditions, your fingerprints can change. In such scenario, removing the old fingerprints and adding new ones can fix the problem as that will allow your device to remap the new fingerprints. In order to remove and add new fingerprints, follow the step by step guide below.
Steps to delete old fingerprints:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down and tap on Biometrics and security
- Tap on Fingerprints
- Enter the PIN, Password, or Pattern if prompted

- Go to Settings
- Tap on Biometrics and security
- Tap on Fingerprints
- Type in the PIN, Password, or Pattern when prompted
- Tap Add fingerprint. Enter the current PIN, Password, or Pattern if prompted

- Tap Done to add the fingerprint
5. Wipe the system cache
Random system errors can cause damage to your device’s functionality especially if it corrupts the device’s system cache which holds data for most of your apps and services. Try wiping and resetting the system cache and see if that fixes the problem.
Here’s how to wipe the system cache.
- Turn off your device
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby/Power key.
- Continue to hold both keys until Android Recovery menu options appear

- Press Bixby/Power key to select
- Press the Volume down key to highlight Yes, then press the Bixby/Power key to select
- When the process is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted

6. Factory reset the phone
If the problem started after a recent firmware update, then the problem is most likely a software bug that came with the update. Restoring your device back to factory version may be able to fix the problem here. However, this procedure will erase all your device data so make sure to take backup if possible before proceeding with the reset operation.
Here is a step by step guide to perform the factory reset of your device.
- Turn off the device (Press and hold Power button and Volume down key together until the Power Menu appears, then tap the Power off to turn off the device)
- Now press and hold the Power and Volume Up keys for few seconds
- When the device logo is displayed, release the keys and wait until the Recovery menu appears
- Use the Volume Down key to highlight and select “Wipe data/factory reset“
- Press the Power key to select the option
- Use the Volume Down button and highlight Factory data reset option
- Press the Power key to proceed
- After the factory reset completes, you will see the recovery menu again
- Select “Reboot System Now” and press Power to restart the device
After the reset process is complete and your phone has fully rebooted, try the fingerprint sensor again to see if it works. If it doesn’t, you should contact Samsung care for further diagnosis and assistance on the issue.
