Tips to Fix Galaxy Z Fold 4/Flip 4 Overheating Issue
1. Avoid Hot Environments
Did you know that the ideal temperature range for your Samsung phone is 0-35 degrees Celsius?
If you live in an area where the temperature is higher than 35 degrees Celsius, it is important that you periodically set aside your phone and let it rest and cool down.
If you can find a cooler environment, try to keep your phone there. Also, avoid prolonged use of your phone.
2. Remove Protective Cover
Certain protective covers for phones are notorious for trapping heat and overheating the phone.
If you are using a phone cover or case that does not offer ample space for dissipating heat, your phone can overheat.
In a scenario like that, try to change the protective cover. If you can’t do that immediately, remove the cover and leave your phone in a cool place.
3. Abort All Background Apps
It is not unnatural to leave apps running in the background after using them. Though most of us do this, it is not a good practice. Background apps can overheat a phone.
Tap on the Recent Key on your phone to see all the background apps running. Once they show up, tap the ‘Close All’ button to abort all background apps.
4. Turn Off 5G, Bluetooth, Location Services, Mobile Data, Wi-Fi, etc.
No one needs all services at once. All these services consume battery and heat the phone significantly. It is better to turn them off and turn on the ones that you need.
For instance, turn on Bluetooth only when you need it. Similarly, when you turn on Wi-Fi, turn off mobile data. You don’t need both together.
Location services are needed only when you need to use cab or food delivery apps. You can safely turn off this service when not needed.
You can access all these settings from the Quick Access panel and turn them on or off with a single tap.
5. Uninstall Corrupt Apps
If the overheating issue started after you installed a certain app, it may be the culprit. Removing a corrupt app can help to cool down your phone.
You can simply turn on Safe Mode to deactivate all apps except the native apps. If the overheating issue is resolved, you will know that an app is causing the problem. You can then remove it to fix the problem.
You can turn on the Safe Mode by pressing and holding the power button. You will see the Power Off icon. Tap and hold the icon to see the Safe Mode icon. Now tap on the Safe Mode icon to reboot your phone into Safe Mode.
6. Check the Charger
If you are using a cheap, fake, or faulty charger, it may be the culprit. You must make sure that you are using an authentic Samsung charger. If the one that came with your phone is not working, get a replacement from Samsung.
Any charger that is not made or certified by Samsung can overheat your phone, or even damage your phone. Using the right charger will ensure that your phone is not overheating (if that’s happening while charging).
7. Use Power Saving Mode
Honestly, this is a temporary quick fix. The Power Saving mode will disable all services that run in the background. Services like animation, brightness, location check, data syncing, network usage, etc. can drain battery life and overheat the phone.
Once these services are disabled, the battery life will increase, and the overheating issue will be resolved.
To turn on the Power Saving mode, use this step: Settings » Battery and device care » Battery » Power saving mode. Use the toggle switch to turn it on.
8. Run an Update
A software bug can be responsible for overheating your phone. Running a software update can fix this issue permanently. Use the following step: Settings » Software Update » Download and Install.
This fix is applicable only when there is a software update available. Even if a software bug is not responsible for overheating your phone, you must always keep your phone’s software updated.
9. Clear System Cache Partition
The system cache partition is responsible for everything your phone does. If the cache files stored there get corrupted, it can lead to phone overheating. Wiping the partition cache can help. Use the steps:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and then press and hold the Side key.
- The Android logo will appear. This is where you release all keys.
- The phone will show ‘Installing System Update’ for 30-60 seconds. Wait.
- After that, the phone will show Android recovery menu options.
- Use your phone’s Volume Down key (press several times) to highlight the Wipe Cache Partition option.
- Now, press the Power key to complete the selection.
- Use the Volume Down key to highlight ‘Yes’ and then use the power key to complete the selection.
After the process is complete, you will see a message which says Reboot system now. Use the Power key to turn on the phone.
10. Do a Factory Reset
- Use the Volume Down key to navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
- Use the Power key for selecting the option.

Now, wait for the phone to complete the process, and then when you see the message Reboot system now, use the Power Key to restart your phone.
