Most of you must be familiar with the app called “Shazam” that is used to identify songs. Although the app works fine, it’s not preinstalled on your Android phone. For a regular person who will use the app occasionally to identify songs, it does not make sense to keep it on the phone all the time just for song recognition.
Suppose you are in the mall and you hear a song that you don’t recognize, what do you do? You can install the Shazam app but it will take some time and maybe, just maybe, the song is over until you install the app. So what should a person do?
Today, we are going to tell you a magic trick that will help you to identify and recognize songs without installing any third party app. Thanks to our beloved Android phones that provide two built-in methods to identify songs. The first method involves Google Assistant and the second one uses a widget from Google, which is also pre-installed on your Android device.
How to use Google Assistant to recognize songs
Google Assistant, the powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) based personal assistant was launched last year along with the first gen Pixel devices. Eventually, the Assistant arrived on all Android devices running Android Marshmallow 6.0+.
While Google Assistant can perform a plethora of things, it lacked song recognition until a month back. In November, Google started rolling out song recognition feature for Google Assistant on all supported Android devices. The feature first came to Pixel and Nexus devices followed by other smartphones running Android Marshmallow 6.0+.
Here’s how to recognize songs using Google Assistant:
- Launch Google Assistant on your Android device using the home button or saying the command, “Ok Google”.
- Then, while the song is playing, say the command, “What song is this?” or “What song is playing?”
- Google Assistant will fire up its song recognition feature to recognize the song and once it identifies the song, it will present you with all the information related to the song such as the name of the song and singer, release date and even lyrics of the song.
Kindly note, this method only works for devices that have Google Assistant, which means Android phones having Android Marshmallow 6.0+. If your device doesn’t support Google Assistant, you should try the second method given below.
How to use Google widget to recognize songs
Another method that you can use to identify or recognize songs on your Android device involves a widget. As already mentioned above, you don’t have to install the widget, it comes preinstalled on your Android device.
The widget goes by the name Google Sound Search and is located under Google heading in the widget section of your Android phone.
To use Google widget to identify songs, follow the steps:
- Long tap on any empty space on your Android home screen.
- Tap widgets from the options present at the bottom.
- Navigate to Google widgets. Tap it.
- Drag the “Google Sound Search” widget on your home screen.
- Then, when you want to identify a song, just tap the widget and your Android device will start listening for music. Similar to the Google Assistant, the widget will also display all the information related to the song.
